The Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of Innovators and Job Creators, who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human values.

Since 2014 AFRYDEF joined the Global Entrepreneurship Council, we have continued to organize this event in Imo State to encourage enterprise development among Imo youths.

For this year’s event, we collaborated with Stavis Business Academy and our focus centered on showcasing “Access to Finance Opportunities” available for young entrepreneurs in Imo State.

The event featured a keynote paper presented by our President, Remy Chukwunyere; Paper presentations and Panel sessions which featured both successful and upcoming young entrepreneurs in the State.

Officials from our partners: Bank of Industry (BOI) and National Directorate for Employment (NDE) were present to showcase access to finance opportunities available in their agencies and the newly launched AGSMEIS managed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The first panel session featured Mrs Ngozi Nwanebo, Special Assistant to the Governor of Imo State on Public Private Partnerships, Mr. Iyke Chukwure, Dr. Hassan Richmen, Emeka Nobis, Avis Charles, who are business experts, tech consultants and brand strategists.

The second panel for startups featured Miss Precious Damien (a baker running her businesses in two cities), Mr. C. J Benjamin (a tech consultant whose company has created over 50 tech products for companies in Nigeria and India), Mr. Mundus Uwakwe (a digital Marketer, whose company has executed digital services for companies in and beyond Owerri and has trained over 5000 youths on digital skills), Mr. Udochukwu Chukwu (a serial entrepreneur who runs several enterprises and is famous for his company, Master Fix Services)

Panelists from both sessions used the opportunity to share with the audience “how they started, how they raised their initial capitals, their success stories, the challenges they faced along the line and their scaling up plans”.

We appreciate the support of Bank of Industry and the Imo State Government of Nigeria for this project.
