Hon. Remy Chukwunyere founded African Youth Development Foundation in 1999 as a youth corper. His desire to empower other young people with the right knowledge and information they need to succeed in life led him into founding the organization.
As a young graduate of Industrial Biochemistry, carrying out his national youth service at the Pipelines Products Marketing Company (PPMC) in Kaduna, Remy started mobilizing his friends, colleagues and other young people and was mentoring them about leadership.
This small dream of becoming a voice for young people around the world metamorphosed into a great one when in 2000, African Youth Development Foundation (AFRYDEF) entered into partnership with the USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives for the implementation of a number of peace building and economic development programs for the youths of oil producing communities in Imo State whose lands and water resources were devastated as a result of oil exploration activities.
His contributions in restoring peace in these oil producing communities got him appointed into office as the Executive Secretary of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Council of Imo State, which is one of the oil producing LGAs that suffered several years of neglect and deprivation, despite their huge contributions to the economic growth of the country. As a youth and development activist, he applied his position in rewriting the stories of the communities in Ohaji/Egbema LGA.
Since then, he has served the Imo State Government of Nigeria in several positions, the latest being the Director General of Imo State Directorate for Employment and Job Center, where he currently champions aggressive campaign for young people to embrace entrepreneurship and self-employment as the solutions to the unemployment crisis ravaging the African continent. So far, he has taken this message to the nooks and crannies of this country and beyond using several media and platforms.
