2017 International Youth Day: Re-echoing the impacts of USAID activities in Imo State

12 Aug

In celebration of the 2017 International Youth Day, we at African Youth Development Foundation remember with excitement our long term commitment towards peace in Nigeria.

We are proud to declare that since inception in 2000, we are partners in several peace projects in the country, starting with the USAID Peace Project in the Niger Delta region implemented by the Office of Transition Initiatives.

Interestingly, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Youth Building Peace!” This theme calls to mind our efforts that led to the founding and establishment of what we called the “Movement to Save Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta Youths” in 2000 by the duo of African Youth Development Foundation and Committee for Advancement of Justice with funding from the USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives.

That project led to the training and empowerment of over 50 youth leaders who resolved to continue to maintain the peace in their communities, which are the oil producing areas of Imo State.

In the spirit of this year’s celebration, permit us to recall the communiqué released at the end of this project funded by the USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives in Imo State, which is available here….

Once again, happy 2017 International Youth Day!

Executive Director
