Today, Tuesday, November 11, 2014, AFRYDEF Back to School Program in partnership with the Catherine Onwuzurike Foundation donated books and writing materials to children and pupils of St. Francis Community School, Dikenaofeiyi Community, Isiala Mbano LGA in Imo State.

This children empowerment program received the kind supports of Villa Kunterbunt Velmede, Germany, Montekia Bestwig, Germany and Rapido Foods, Nigeria.

It was a great show today as the children, their teachers and the community leaders trooped out en masse to receive our Founder/President, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere and his team to their community.

Speaking at the event, the President General of the Community, Hon. Donatus Osuji, who represented the traditional ruler alongside the CLO/Legal Adviser of the Community, Chief Barr. Obiefule Innocent said they were so excited to have the team in their community and thanked us for coming to encourage their kids with books and other materials.

In her own speech, the Headteacher of the Community School, Mrs. Obi expressed her profound gratitude to AFRYDEF and the Catherine Onwuzurike Foundation led by an indigene of the Dikenaofeiyi Community, Mrs. Nkiru Homann for coming to the aid of their children who are in dire need of help to assist them in their education.

Speaking earlier in his opening remarks, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere said that they were in the community to interact with the children on behalf of one of their daughters, Mrs. Nkiru Homann, who he said passed through the community school.

According to him, Mrs. Nkiru Homann decided to partner with AFRYDEF in order to give back to the community, which contributed immensely to her upbringing while she was growing up.

He also said that the programs of both organizations are in tandem with the activities of the State Government led by His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and said this gesture is their own way of supporting the Governor and his good intentions for the people of the State.

Books and other materials worth thousands of naira were distributed to the kids who were overjoyed by the visit. Rapido Foods, Nigeria, makers of the tasty and our favourite sausage, FIBI provided lunch for the kids and their teachers.

We thank the Almighty God for the success of this event at Dikenaofeiyi Community in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State, Nigeria.

We took some photos for your viewing pleasure….

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today, 30th March, 2014 is being celebrated all over the world as Mother’s Day.

It’s a thing of joy to celebrate our women, our mothers, who have contributed so much in changing the world through their families…

We join other groups across the world in this great celebration. We are so excited that the roles women are playing in our families, communities, schools, countries are being recognized today. From Nigeria, South Africa, India, Saudi Arabia, to China, UK and USA, women are gradually changing the world little by little.

With their small scale businesses, Petty trades, farms, shops, etc, they struggle to provide food for their children in worn-torn countries and developing economies.

In Nigeria, we thank God for all the women of Nigeria, especially those struggling for their lives in Boko Haram infested states in the north. It’s a pity that their lives and those of their families are being put in danger for sins they did not commit and for reasons they do not know.

Our prayer is that one day, God will restore peace in this country and we all will have the opportunity to move Nigeria forward.

We hereby call on our supporters and donors all over the world to do something today to celebrate our mothers…

Make a donation now by clicking here and the good Lord will bless you!

Happy Mother’s Day!

From all of us at AFRYDEF…

Buzzfeed and Women Thrive Worldwide recognize Linda Chukwunyere, our COO!

Linda Chukwunyere, Chief Operating Officer, AFRYDEF

Woooowwww…. this is a beautiful way to start the new year! International recognition for our Chief Operating Officer, Linda Chukwunyere and our organization by two US-based organizations, the Women Thrive Worldwide, and the popular online news magazine Buzzfeed Community.

In a release, entitled: 14 Fierce Women’s Rights Advocates To Watch In 2014, our own Chief Operating Officer, Linda Chukwunyere was ranked number 8 out of the 14 women selected across the world.

Do you know what? She was the only Nigerian considered worthy of this honour….. what a special new year gift?

It was really a surprise package when Women Thrive Worldwide, informed our office about the feature and link to the publication.

For full details of the publication, click here…

We are most grateful to Women Thrive Worldwide for this great honour!

Wooowww….it just came at the right time, the start of a new year! Little did we know that our programs are being recognized by international organizations like Women Thrive Worldwide and Buzzfeed.

By this honour, they have rightly prepared us to do more in 2014 and we hope to expand our projects to the unreached and highly impoverished women and children in the rural communities of Nigeria.

We greatly appreciate all our supporters across the world, for without you, we wouldn’t have achieved the much we have done these years….

We are most grateful and highly encouraged.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
